TigerTurf approached SSDM in 2010 to request a rapid turnaround bowls testing service for signing off artificial greens. The system developed was modelled on the World Bowls Performance Standard for Artificial Flat Green Bowls Surfaces. Dr Richard Gibbs of SSDM was originally involved in the development of the standard back in 1993.

SSDM acquired all the appropriate testing gear and developed a customised computer-based reporting system for the testing so that reports can be easily submitted within 24 hours of testing. Testing of several artificial bowling greens has now been carried out between Hamilton and Whangarei.

The service is available to all bowling clubs with artificial greens.
